Season Finale
After 3 weeks with storm we finally got a fishing day. As some more bad weather is coming soon it was my final day of this years fall season and it was a good day. After getting the boat cleaned of ice in the morning I made it to the water around 8:30 and fished the area where I started the season. I got a small trout in the morning and than 3 hours nothing. At 11:50 AM a salmon of 5.5 kg hit a wobbler on the surface and as soon as the fish was in the boat another rod went off with a trout of 7.8 kg followed by a small salmon. Than the wind became to strong and I made it to the shore.
So the boat is out of the water and will be stored for the winter.
Next is Christmas with the family followed by hunting in Hungary.

30° C warmer
Today is the 1st of December and it is 30° C warmer than last year at this time, no snow and ice have been seen yet. Winter is something a trolling angler doesn't need at all, only the wind could ease a bid down, maybe next week.

Around noon came the salmon of 3.8 kg as well as another small trout. One more trout of 3.3kg on the way home. We have seen the sun today, the first time since almost 3 weeks and the full moon.

1 salmon in the morning
I had 3 strikes today, all before 9:30. The first was empty, the second came off after 2 minutes and the third was a salmon of 3.5 kg. I fished with Löja and as soon as the wind started my fishing was over, nothing happened anymore until dawn.

2 salmon in the afternoon
Originally I had planned to move far north today, but strong northern wind in the morning prevented me from doing so. I stayed in our area and found a spot with a lot of baitfish where I fished the whole day. First I got a small trout followed by four lost fish, from which one was a big one. Around 2:30 I decided to move away towards the harbor, 15 minutes later I got a strike on the 10 ft Downrigger rod with a golden Fishlander spoon, that was a salmon of 5kg. Turned the boat and went back to get another fish on a Bomber wobbler on the surface, a salmon of 3.5 kg. One more empty strike and the day was over due to approaching darkness.

2 salmon in foggy weather
Today I started fishing with bait fish as calm and sunny weather was predicted, but the result was poor with 1 small salmon until noon time only and no sun at all. So I decided to swap to wobbler and change place as well, which was the right move with getting 2 salmon of 7 and 4.5 kg in the afternoon.

Resume
On Monday morning we left Hungary after a great week of hunting, thanks to Franz who made it possible to hunt his area while he was on a holiday trip to Croatia with his fiancee and all the others in Hungary who took good care of us.
After meeting some friends in Austria we collected the meat of the first buck, payed Franz a visit in Vienna to say "Thank you" and good bye and went back to Germany.
Now we're looking forward of the salmon season to start on Vänern and to go back to Sweden.

Hungary, buck 3 and 4
Saturday and Sunday I had to hunt in another area together with Gabor, who was guiding me.
Saturday morning was without success, so we went back in the evening. On the first stand we could see only a few young bucks, which made us to change the spot and the stand. Even at the other stand we saw at the beginning only a young buck and a doe, feeding lonely. As darkness approached, a buck came out of the forest close to our stand. We watched him with the binoculars and decided that he was good to be harvested, which I did. He went down at the spot.
I gave Franz a call and he told me that there was another buck to be collected to fulfill the harvesting plan for the area. So we went out again the next day, a bit earlier as the day before. After reaching the stand in early morning dusk our target buck entered the scene. Gabor called him with the whistle into shooting range. I shot and after a few seconds he was down.
Hungary, buck 2
On Thursday evening we saw only a family of wild boar with 10 piglets eating snails in the bush close to our stand, no buck. The next morning we went to another stand, but apart from some wild boar and red deer and a young buck, nothing was around. So we decided to drive a little bit through the area close to river Danube. Around 9:00 o'clock we saw a doe approx. 50 m away between some bushes. Ferrie stopped and said, the buck must be there as well. We waited a few minutes, Ferrie called with the whistle and the buck came out, perfectly placed for a shot. He went a few meters before going down.
Hungary , 1st buck
The next day we continued our trip to the Hungarian area close to the Austrian/Slovakian border.
At the hunting lodge we were welcomed by Piroschka, who should take care of us in the coming days in terms of cooking and so on. I called the professional hunter, Ferrie, who is taking care of the hunting area and agreed on a first outing in the evening, which was not successful. On the next day we saw a lot of wild boar and red deer but no roe buck to fit in our targeted scheme.
On Thursday morning we went out again at 4:30 and it was pouring down with rain. We went to the same stand as the day before. After waiting half an hour we saw a buck entering the road in the forest together with a doe. Ferrie said, this is our buck. The two were playing around and finally mated. After that, the buck disappeared into the bush. Ferrie called him with the whistle, he jumped out again and I shot him, he was down immediately.
Roebuck hunting trip to Austria-Hungary
I received an invitation from my friend Franz from Vienna to hunt some Roebuck during the mating/rutting season in his hunting areas in Austria and Hungary. So we started on the 1st of August our trip to the south-east.
After meeting in Vienna, we went on the first evening to his Austrian area. We entered the stand and already saw the buck, which was our target. Franz called him with a whistle imitating the call of a doe in the rut. The buck came closer to the stand but was allover sudden accompanied by another buck challenging him, this took a few minutes than the second buck went off and we could lure him again so that I was able to pay him a shot, after a few meters he went down. The first buck was harvested.

Double hook again
Yesterdays fishing was a bit slower as there is not so much tidal move in the water. We caught 3 Cod and 3 Coalfish with 10.5 , 7 and 4kg. The 2 biggest came in a double hook, this time with me getting the bigger and trolling was the method again.

Trolling was the deal
After one day with bad result and a day off due to bad weather we decided to do some trolling with big Rapala-Wobbler around high tide in the afternoon. After 2 hours searching we found the fish close do a small skär. In 2 hours we caught 3 big Coalfish with 2x 9 and 6.5 kg as well as 9 Cod and 1 Pollack. I was doing the fishing while Gretel was driving the boat, real Teamwork.

Living like the tide!
Fishing in Norway means living like the tide. Usually we fish with incoming water during the night.
Last evening we went out at 9.00 PM and came back at 2.00 AM going to bed at 4.00 AM.
The fish started really biting after midnight, we caught 4 Cod , 1 Pollack and 1 Haddock (Schellfisch) and Gretel did it again with a Cod of 10 kg. Originally she had a double on but 1 got of in midway.

Hitra, Norway
On Friday last week we started our trip to Hitra, Norway. We left in pouring rain and found a lot of roads bloked in Norway due to the same reason, but nevertheless we made it to Sandstad without a lot of delay. The fist days of fishing were just average with some Codfish and others. We tried several times the spot of last years Coalfish success and today finally we met them. In just one hour we caught 3 nice fish weighing 12, 8 and 3 kg as well as some medium sized Cod. So we hope that the good fishing will continue as the weather prediction for the next days looks good.

Spring salmon season over
Today we pulled the boat out of the water in Simrishamn and went back to Mossen. The last 2 days gave only one fish each in the 5 kg class. But anyhow this season has been the best ever I experienced in the Baltic Sea so far and the amount of juvenile salmon gives a very good outlook of the years to come should the overall situation remain or improve, we'll see.
Our next fishing destination will be Hitra in Norway in mid June, before we need a few days rest and have to acquire some freezing capacities.

2 salmon 10+ and Seatrout 8.2 kg
After 2 days with to much wind I went out today around noon time and had a great fishing. In just a few hours I caught 2 salmon of 10.8 and 10.5 kg as well as a nice Seatrout of 8.2 kg which is my new personal best and a salmon of 3 kg. The south western wind has now moved the fish to their traditional places in front of Simrishamn.

Salmon 10.5 kg
Yesterday was the first day of the annual Fishing Competition in Simrishamn. I caught 1 salmon of 10.5 kg and lost 2 good ones in heavy water. Today I fished only a few hours as the wind was to hard later on. I had only one strike and nothing in the boat, the first day without fish. The fish are now very much one the move and you need a bit luck to hit them at the right moment and place. The next 2 days will be to much wind for fishing.

"Full Hand"
Todays fishing result, 5 salmon from 3 to 7 kg and 2 lost ones. I fished a hot spot with my friends from Team "Reel Fun" which yielded a lot of fish. We had a real race which lasted almost 3 hours.
Yesterdays fishing was slow and gave only a Seatrout of 5kg.
The picture of the day with the catch is a tribute to my wife, who is doing all the logistics on land while I'm on the water.

Full Pott at 09.45 AM
I went out at 6.00 o'clock, started fishing at 6.30 and had 3 fish in the boat after 20 minutes, than 2 hours nothing. Around 9.30 I went back to the spot of the morning and got a Fivehook, one went of immediately, one was only 58cm and the others were 7, 6 and 4 kg, Full Pott and back in the harbor around noon.
The next 2 days will be no fishing because of the wind and a needed rest.

3 nice salmon
Todays fishing gave 3 nice salmon weighing 10.3, 9.8 and 7.8 kg as well as one lost of the same caliber, although I was handicaped by loosing one downrigger base in the morning. Anyhow the fish were all caught on the same rod with the same spoon.
Finally some special greetings to the audience in Niestetal!

First day fishing in Simrishamn, 5 salmon
After 2 days with to much wind I fished the first time in Simrishamn and caught 5 salmon in the 4-5kg class and lost a good one.
The day had all weather from cloudy in the morning, sunny around noon and a snowstorm on the way home. There have been a few "limit" catches today, it looks as if there still a lot of fish around, it's only a bit difficult to get the big ones but there is plenty of time left.

First part of salmon season over
Today we pulled the boat out of the water, tomorrow it will go for service and on Saturday we're heading to Simrishamn. The first part of Vänern fishing is over, there might be some fishing end of May depending on the water temperature and the migration of the salmon.
The expectations for the fishing in the Baltic Sea are high as the last month has been extra ordinary.

Finally 3 salmon in the boat
Today I finally managed to get 3 salmon in the boat, but as I was accompanied by my neighbor Kristoffer it wasn't "Full Pott". Kristoffer is normally good for 4 fish as he was today as well, the 4th one was a big and hard fighting "Monster"-wild-salmon of around 8 kg which we had to release. We caught also 2 small salmon, a good fishing day after yesterdays empty tour.

Double Hook
Same spot and same time as yesterday but today a double hook which resulted in 2 salmon of 4 kg each, plus an undersized short after. I stopped fishing around noon as the wind was to much for serious trolling.
Tomorrow will be bait fish action again!

Hunting trip to Hungary
Team Mossen on the rocks
Just coming back from our succesfull hunting trip to Hungary and checking the internet for some news from Sweden, finding our boat burried in ice and snow. Having thought that Simrishamn would be a save place at least for a few weeks, but that was wrong as one can see on this picture (http://www.simrishamnstrolling.se/galleri/galleribild.asp?bildid=1898). It looks as if Jan has switched of the heater in the harbor.
